Cozy Cinnamon Latte to Tackle Pesky Brain-Fog

Feeling a bit fuzzy lately?

Clear your head with this sweet and simple homemade cinnamon latte!

Cinnamon is a common spice found in cabinets and pantries all over the world. It can be a finely ground powder or rolled sticks of bark. It can be mixed with sugar for a sprinkle of earthy sweetness, or enjoyed on its own to add notes of citrusy spice.

But there is so much more to cinnamon than being a spice rack staple!

Did you know that cinnamon has been linked to reducing anxiety and inflammation, and boosting the brain’s ability to focus and remember? And, many cultures around the world recognize cinnamon as a symbol of prosperity and good fortune.

So, next time you find yourself needing some extra clarity, a warm and cozy cinnamon latte might be just the thing to try. And who knows, it might bring a little luck, too!

How to Make a Cinnamon Latte

This homemade cinnamon latte is the best recipe for waking up the right way. It’s not quite as simple as sprinkling some cinnamon sugar into a mug of coffee and warm milk. Although, you can do that, too, if you’d like.

To make this cinnamon latte recipe, you will first need to make the cinnamon syrup.

And with our easy-to-follow guide, you’ll have a batch of made-from-scratch simple syrup ready in no time!

Making the Syrup

To make this flavor syrup, you’ll need:

  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • 4 cinnamon sticks, broken into pieces
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Combine water, sugar, and cinnamon sticks in a small pot.

Over medium heat, bring everything to a rolling boil. Once the sugar is completely dissolved, reduce the heat.

After reducing the heat, place a lid on the pot and let the mixture simmer for about 5 minutes. Then, completely turn off the heat and leave everything to steep for an hour, leaving the lead, too.

After an hour has passed, stir in the vanilla extract. Use a small mesh strainer, sieve, or even a cheesecloth-lined funnel to strain the mixture into a jar. Be sure the container can handle a little heat because the syrup may still be warm.

You are now the proud owner of handcrafted, artisanal cinnamon syrup! One batch can last up to two weeks if refrigerated. But odds are, you’ll use it up quickly. It’s a delicious addition to a cup of morning coffee, a hearty bowl of oatmeal, and so much more!

Making the Latte

Now that you’ve got the syrup, you’re ready to get started on the coziest coffee you’ve had to date! And what’s even better: it only takes about 5 minutes!

Grab your favorite espresso grounds, a milk of your choice, and let’s get brewing!

Add a teaspoon or two of the cinnamon syrup to a mug. You can always add more later to make it sweeter, but try not to be overly generous at first.

Set the mug aside and get your espresso maker ready to pull shots. Once things are good to go, pull the shots directly into the mug so that the espresso can mix smoothly with the cinnamon syrup.

Then, fill a small pitcher with milk and use the steam attachment to warm and foam. If you aren’t sure how to steam milk, we’ve covered the process step by step in our guide to making the best homemade pumpkin spice latte. If you aren’t a huge fan of foam, though, using a frothing wand in warm milk will be a better choice.

Once your milk is heated and foamed or frothed to your liking, pour it into the mug with espresso.
