Relax and refresh with this sweet summer smoothie treat!
There’s no more need to deal with the melting mess of an ice cream bar! Enjoy the flavorful medley of tangy orange and rich cream in a deliciously chilled smoothie, perfect for sipping under the sun!
Remember the childhood excitement that accompanied the distant ringing of an ice cream truck on its way? The eagerness of unwrapping a frozen treat after a hot day filled with playing outside before enjoying the orangey, creamy sweetness of an orange creamsicle? It was magical back then, even if it was a bit messy. But, when was the last time you indulged in something that brought you so much joy as a kid? You may not be chasing down the ice cream truck with friends anymore, but you can still feel the elation of a refreshing summer treat with ease! And with this recipe, it won’t leave your hands sticky!
How to Make an Orange Creamsicle Smoothie
While this recipe doesn’t call for the frozen treat from our childhoods, it does still give the same nostalgic, tangy, and refreshingly sweet flavor! To make this summer smoothie, you’ll need some orange juice as well as a fresh orange, vanilla extract, some vanilla-flavored Greek yogurt, and a ripe banana.
There is some preparation necessary before you can get to blending, so make sure to plan ahead! Grab the ripe banana, peel it, and slice it up. Then, place it into a freezer-safe dish and place it in the freezer until the slices are solid. This could take a while, so if you are able to do this step the day or night before, you will have much better results!
Once your banana is frozen and you are ready to start making your orange creamsicle smoothie, prepare the orange by peeling and slicing to make it easier to blend.
In your blender, combine the frozen banana slices, orange juice, and vanilla extract. Make sure you have a strong blender that is capable of taking on the frozen banana slices, otherwise you may be left with a mess and without a deliciously creamy smoothie!
Blend your ingredients on high until they turn into a thick and creamy consistency. For most smoothies, the smoother the better (hence the name), so it may take some time to break down the bigger ingredients. In fact, this could take about 3 minutes or so, including scraping the insides of the blender intermittently to prevent clogging.
Then, add in the Greek yogurt, orange slices, and, if you happened to have kept the orange peel, a little bit of orange zest for a tangy kick. Continue to blend your ingredients until they become a creamy, dreamy smoothie!
The frozen banana slices and other refrigerated ingredients should be enough to keep this smoothie cold, but if it isn’t as chilled as you’d like, placing it in the fridge for a few minutes should do the trick!
