Decadent candied hearts with fresh and flavorful pomegranate? Yes, please! These chocolate-pomegranate candies are so simple they take no effort at all and leave you with darling little treats to mark the occasion. Want to know what you’ll need? Keep reading!
Like we said before, these candies only require two ingredients to make and hardly any time!
Simply run to the store and grab one medium-sized pomegranate, or even just the seeds, and a package of your favorite melting chocolate! We used Ghirardelli’s 60% cacao chocolate chips which resulted in quick and even melting and the perfect blend of sweet, tangy, and rich with the pomegranate. You can use whatever chocolate you prefer, but we definitely recommend sticking to the darker side for this dessert!
If you opted to buy a whole pomegranate, take the time to collect the seeds into a bowl or Tupperware before you begin, otherwise, let’s get into making these bite-sized candies!
Grab a heart-shaped silicone mold and use a spoon to fill each heart with the pomegranate seeds. Because of their shape they can be difficult to work with, but simply use the bottom side of the spoon to pack the seeds into the mold and create an even layer.
Set aside your mold and pour some chocolate chips into a microwave-safe bowl. The amount of chocolate you need to melt will depend on how many candies you are making, but it’s better to melt smaller batches of chocolate at a time to prevent accidentally burning the chocolate or letting it harden before use. In essence, start with maybe ½ of a cup of chocolate chips and melt more as needed along the way.
To melt the chocolate chips, you’ll simply place the bowl in the microwave for about 30 seconds and a time and stir between each session. Keep an eye on your chocolate and make sure not to over cook! If there are only a few lumps left when you pull it out of the microwave, try to stir it until the lumps melt away rather than placing it back into the microwave. You should be left with some smooth and rich melted chocolate in no time!
Next up, spoon the melted chocolate into each of the heart molds making sure to cover as much of the pomegranate seeds as possible! It’s okay if they aren’t perfect as they will taste the same either way, but do your best to create an even layer of chocolate so that the flavor is evenly distributed for the perfect bite every time!
Once all of your hearts are chocolate-ified, place the silicone mold into the fridge for about 30 minutes or until the chocolate has completely hardened.
After the chocolate has had time to solidify, you are ready to enjoy the fruits of your labor with whomever you’d like!
These sweet treats are bite-sized testaments to love that are perfect for celebrating Valentine’s Day this year!
