Weddings rarely happen overnight. They require a lot of planning, re-planning, and investment. In the end, a happy couple celebrates their love for one another as the pieces fall into place around them. Those moments are part of the magic that surrounds weddings, and Table & Thyme is dedicated to making those moments as memorable as possible. There are a number of ways to achieve this, but we choose to do so through creating exquisite and unique catering experiences.
We believe it is important to create a menu that reflects the quirks and personality of the happy couple. For this particular wedding, hosted at the Christopher Glenn venue in Homewood, Alabama, we designed a delicious and appetizing Latin American- Inspired reception menu with a Southern twist. Join us while we look back on this enticing event!
This wedding menu featured some fun new flavors to keep guests entertained during the evening. First, we offered a hearty helping of Bolitas de Yuca, a popular dish in the Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, and Colombia, which is cheese filled yuca balls tossed in a breading and fried to perfection. These tasty treats are similar to fried cheesy potato balls, but have a distinct flavor that cannot be replicated. Guests were also offered miniature beef empanadas for a more savory snack before the main entrée of the evening.
Just before the main course, guests were served our Avocado Citrus Salad with honey lemon vinaigrette, designed to highlight the diversity of Latin American flavors in the dinner menu. Fresh and crispy spring mix was lightly tossed in our homemade dressing and fixings, and topped with freshly sliced avocado for a nutty sweetness. As guests enjoyed their refreshing salads, we began the preparations for one of two entrée options of the evening made in-house to optimize freshness and attention to detail. The first dining option was a vegetarian dish for particular guests that consisted of a number of flavorful vegetables on a bed of rice. This recipe featured a healthy and hearty option for guests by including chickpeas, quinoa, and tomatoes, and more to accommodate their diet.
Finally, the rest of the guests were served their main entrée, Ropa Vieja. Traditionally a Cuban dish, Ropa Vieja typically features braised beef, shredded, with vegetables and oftentimes served with rice. Table & Thyme’s Ropa Vieja was made with specially seasoned and braised shredded beef alongside peppers and onions roasted to perfection all over a bed of rice. Then, to top off the dish with a Southern twist, we included a helping of Southern Fried Airline Chicken, as well, served with our homemade Sweet Heat Sauce. Wines were paired with each guest’s meal for a perfectly complete and delicious reception.
This event was not only a one-of-a-kind celebration, but an entertaining evening for guests and vendors alike. We are honored to have been a part of this special day and could not wait to share these unique dishes!
