There’s nothing quite like that first sip of Pumpkin Spice as the seasons begin to change. No more waiting in long lines only to find out your favorite coffee shop is out of the one thing you’ve been craving all year. Gather your ingredients and get ready to fill your home with the scent of the season. You’ll only need a few items: some pumpkin puree, both brown and white sugar, vanilla extract, ground cinnamon, and water.
Once you have everything you need, you are ready to start making your Pumpkin Spice Syrup!
Combine all the ingredients in a large pot and set over the stove on medium heat. Whisk the ingredients together as they warm, making sure that all of the sugar dissolves completely.
Bring the ingredients to a boil, then, remove the syrup from heat.
Using cheesecloth or a sieve, strain the syrup to remove impurities, and pour the liquid into an airtight container such as a jar.
Let the syrup cool completely before sealing and refrigerating. Make sure to use this syrup within one week of making it! But odds are, you’ll finish your first batch before then since it’s just that good!
Add the magic of fall to everything you make with this simple Pumpkin Spice Syrup! It’s vegan-friendly and perfect for drinks, treats, and pretty much anything you can think of! Don’t forget to check out our Pumpkin Spice Latte recipe below!

When it comes to making a pumpkin spice latte that tastes as good as the pros, it all comes down to how it’s made. As much as we would love for our morning coffee to taste as good as the baristas make it just by adding a bit of syrup and a splash of milk, that’s just not going to happen. If you want a quality latte at home, you need quality equipment. This recipe will cover how to make a Pumpkin Spice Latte using an espresso maker with a steam wand attachment. But, if you aren’t ready to invest in these things just yet, you can still make do with some tips from our in-house ex-barista. We cover all the details in our Gourmet Coffee at Home blog, so be sure to give it a read once you know our Pumpkin Spice Latte recipe. But in the meantime, you can replace the espresso with a bit of concentrated coffee and use a frothing wand in lieu of steaming your milk. Now, let’s get into this recipe!
Since we’ve already covered how to make the main ingredient, the Pumpkin Spice Syrup, there are only a few other ingredients you will need to grab. Espresso beans and a milk of your choice When it comes to deciding on which milk to use, the options are endless. But, always remember that the higher the fat content of your milk, the better it will foam. And that goes for non-dairy milks as well!
Put as much Pumpkin Spice Syrup as you want into the bottom of a heat-safe glass or mug. Generally, a few tablespoons will do, but it is entirely up to you. And, if you find it’s not enough, you can always add more!
Grind the espresso beans finely and fill your espresso machine’s portafilter. Gently tamp the grounds until they are lightly packed and form a sturdy puck.
If you are still finding your footing with the espresso-pulling process, here is a quick lesson on Brewing 101. The puck is formed when the espresso grounds are tamped, creating a semi-permeable mass. Espresso is made by “pulling” the shots or forcing water through the puck with pressure. Quality espresso shots are made using a firm and smooth puck since it helps the water flow evenly.
Load your espresso machine with the puck and pull your shots straight into the cup with Pumpkin Spice Syrup. As the shots are pulling, feel free to swirl the cup to melt the syrup into the coffee, or you can stir them together once they are finished.
Next, prepare the milk. Pour some milk into the steaming pitcher (remember that the milk will expand as it foams, so don’t pour too much!).
Place the head of the steaming wand just below the surface of the milk, tilt the pitcher diagonally, and release the steam. Try to keep the tip of the wand on the surface of the milk. You’ll know you’re doing it right when it sounds like paper tearing.
Once your milk is steamed, pour it into the glass with espresso. If you need to, stir to combine all of the ingredients completely.
Enjoy your homemade Pumpkin Spice Latte!
Your favorite fall drink right from the comfort of your own home. And now, you can sip on the sweet flavors of autumn year-round, thanks to this easy recipe!
