It’s not everyday you find an irresistible recipe that takes hardly any time to prepare. That’s why we are so excited to share this easy-to-follow recipe that is perfect for those on-the-go days or as an everyday afternoon snack!
Adapted from the incredible Caprese salad, a dish that sports the colors of the Italian flag, this Caprese flatbread features all of the best bits of the Italian antipasto on a golden bed of toasted naan, perfect for a quick prep and nibble!
Before we jump into this super simple Caprese flatbread recipe, let’s touch on the ingredients.
For recipes like this, the ingredients’ quality is integral in achieving that rich, earthy flavor quality that makes this dish so delicious.
The recipe only calls for a few ingredients, which is why it is such a simple solution to a quick-paced lifestyle, but it is imperative that those ingredients are of high quality.
As a staple in Italian cuisine, mozzarella, basil, tomato, and parmesan have specific roles to fill in a dish. Mozzarella provides a creamy, milky base to complement the more bold flavors of tangy tomato, zesty basil, and sharp parmesan. Together on a bed of toasted naan bread, they create a combined flavor that is just as appetizing as it is easy to prepare. So, be sure to reach for fresh tomatoes and parmesan rather than pre-made options to preserve the flavor quality you deserve!
First things first, begin this recipe by heating olive oil in a pan over medium heat. Once it is ready, place the naan bread in the pan to toast. This step will not take long, so be sure to keep an eye on the bread with that delicious golden hue of toasted perfection in mind.
While the naan is toasting, go ahead and prepare the ingredients if they are not already. This means slicing the mozzarella and tomato and grating or shredding the parmesan cheese.
Once the bottom of the naan has toasted, it is ready to be flipped and topped with the delicious toppings you have prepared.
Layer the sliced mozzarella and tomatoes on the now-toasted side of the bread. Then, sprinkle the parmesan cheese over the entire thing.
Cover the flatbread as it is and allow it to cook for about 5 minutes to melt the cheese.
By cooking the flatbread with a cover, the bread will be able to absorb the sweetness of the mozzarella and tomato, which leaves you with a flavorfully enriched afternoon snack!
After the cheese has melted and the opposite side of the bread has toasted, remove the flatbread from the heat and use a spoon to portion the pesto on top.
If you would like, you can sprinkle more parmesan as a final touch to your flatbread, and you can even drizzle it with a bit of balsamic glaze for an authentic Italian flair. Otherwise, you are free to enjoy your latest culinary creation!
An easy flatbread recipe with full-bodied, earthy flavors like mozzarella, fresh tomato, basil, and parmesan, that is ready in 10 minutes or less. Give it a try!
